Popular movement and ADP protest in front of EDENORTE offices over blackouts

San Francisco de Macorís. – Various social and popular organizations, along with the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP), held a picket in front of the EDENORTE offices to protest the prolonged blackouts affecting the population. Leader Raúl Monegro described the power outages as “abusive and criminal”, pointing out that stretches of up to eight hours, in the midst of the current heat wave, constitute mistreatment of the people.

He assured that the service interruptions are due to the government’s debts to the energy generating companies, and warned that the mobilizations will continue until a definitive solution is offered. For his part, Robert Frías, president of the ADP, stated that the teachers’ union joins the fight because the blackouts directly affect society. “The union has always supported the people’s causes and we will continue in the streets demanding an efficient and quality electricity service,” he reiterated.
