President Abinader declares official mourning for the death of Vicente Sánchez Baret

Santo Domingo. – President Luis Abinader declared through Decree No. 608-25 on Saturday, October 18th, as a day of official mourning, on the occasion of the death of the outstanding political leader and public servant Vicente Sánchez Baret, which occurred last Thursday in Santo Domingo.

The decree highlights Sánchez Baret’s career as an exemplary politician, a symbol of resistance, ethics, and commitment to Dominican democracy. He was a leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), where he held positions such as Secretary of Organization and President, and later co-founder of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).

He also held important positions in the State, including senator for the province of Sánchez Ramírez, Secretary of State of Interior and Police, Secretary of Sports and Recreation, and Director General of Customs, being recognized for his integrity and service to the country. The decree also stipulates that the Ministry of Defense render the corresponding military honors, and that the National Flag fly at half-mast in military facilities and public buildings throughout the national territory during the day of mourning.
