Santo Domingo.- In the framework of the preparations for the sixth edition of the Plastics for Toys program, Esther Patricia and Adriana Margarita, daughters of President Luis Abinader and First Lady Raquel Arbaje, visited the Municipal Palace of the National District this Saturday to learn about the methodology and logistics of the event.
The young women were received by the Director of Innovation and Special Projects of the DN Mayor’s Office, Yolanda de la Rosa, who explained the organizational details of the traditional exchange of plastic bottles for toys, considered one of the events with the greatest impact in terms of environmental awareness in the country.
During the tour, De la Rosa highlighted that the initiative, promoted by Mayor Carolina Mejía, has managed to collect more than 33 million plastic bottles throughout its different editions, establishing itself as a benchmark for environmental education and recycling.
The president’s daughters expressed their gratitude for the information received and valued the continuity and growth of the program, which attracts thousands of families from the National District every year.
For the development of this Sunday’s event, more than 350 uniformed members will provide support to ensure order and security, along with a wide-ranging operation that includes aerial surveillance, tents for lost children, a mobile hospital, ambulances, and rescue teams.
The City Hall reminded that residents of the National District can exchange 500 plastic bottles for a bicycle and 300 for a varied toy, establishing a limit of one bicycle and one toy per ID, in accordance with the provisions of the event.
