Santiago.- Civil and military authorities, students, and representatives from different sectors participated this Saturday in the commemorative acts for the
162nd anniversary of the Restoration Deed, held in front of the
Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration in Santiago.
The activities began with the raising of the National Flag, the singing of the Anthem and fifteen artillery salvos. Subsequently,
floral offerings were laid at the busts of figures such as
Gregorio Luperón, installed in the monument.
In the central act, the president of the National Commission of Patriotic Ephemeris, Juan Pablo Uribe, highlighted the role of the Restoration in the consolidation of National Independence and rejected acts that, he said, disrespect the national symbols.
The provincial governor, Rosa Santos, highlighted the determination of those who faced the annexation to Spain, while the director of history of the Ministry of Defense, Sócrates Suazo, reviewed the first rejections of the measure ordered by Pedro Santana.

From his side, the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez, exhorted the citizenry to defend sovereignty.
The activities concluded with a Te Deum at the Santiago Apóstol Cathedral, officiated by the metropolitan archbishop, Monsignor Héctor Rafael Rodríguez.
The Restoration, initiated on August 16, 1863 in Capotillo, ended in 1865 with the departure of the Spanish troops, re-establishing national independence.
