Strong winds knock down trees and affect the electrical grid on the Peralta, Azua highway

Las Beredas, Azua. – This Sunday morning, strong gusts of wind surprised the residents of the community of Las Beredas, in the municipal district of El Barro, causing several trees to fall on the power lines and obstructing traffic on the road that connects Peralta with Barro. The natural phenomenon left cables on the ground and scattered branches along the road, which generated concern among drivers and residents, who reported that the situation represents a risk for both passers-by and the electrical supply of the area.

“We fear that a tragedy could happen at any moment, because the trees are still on top of the wires and anyone can be affected,” expressed a community member. The residents urgently called on the brigades of Edesur and the Ministry of Public Works to intervene immediately by removing the fallen trees, pruning those that are on the power lines and clearing the road. They also recalled that this stretch of road is surrounded by abundant vegetation, whose trees grow very close to the power lines, which increases the vulnerability of the area in the current cyclonic period. So far, no human losses have been reported, although there is material damage and concern that, if measures are not taken, the coming winds or rains could worsen the situation.
