Santo Domingo.– Former President Hipólito Mejía stated that Senator Omar Fernández has achieved a higher political valuation than his father, also former President Leonel Fernández, within his own party structure. “The son is bigger than the parents,” Mejía expressed, referring to the leadership that, according to him, the young leader has consolidated among his followers and his growing internal positioning.

When analyzing the country’s situation, the former ruler maintained that the Dominican Republic is experiencing a democratic stage that must be preserved. He acknowledged the existence of challenges, but affirmed that the nation is in better condition than many countries in Central and South America.

Mejía also highlighted that young people and women have become decisive actors in current politics, so their participation will be key in the upcoming electoral processes. Looking ahead to 2028, he indicated that the landscape is not yet defined, although the statistics he handles reflect a close competition and a constantly evolving political scenario.
