Santo Domingo.- Joy, satisfaction, and the desire to continue moving forward marked the reactions of the UASD graduates this Thursday, who celebrated the culmination of years of study during the ordinary graduation ceremony held by the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).
Among the new professionals is Loamy Valdez, a graduate from the area of Education, who defined this day as a moment of great importance in her life and thanked God and her family for accompanying her during the process.

“It is very important to me, it is an achievement attained thanks to the Lord. And well, to my parents, to my husband and to everyone, for me it is an achievement,” expressed Valdez.
The new professional assured that, from now on, her purpose is to move forward and give her best in the practice of her career. She also recalled the difficulties faced during her university training, especially due to the lack of some resources, obstacles that, as she explained, were not impossible to overcome.

Emotion was also present in Marielba Candelario, a Bioanalysis graduate, who summarized her feelings with one word: “Happy”.
When referring to the process he had to go through to achieve his university degree, Candelario, with tears in his eyes, acknowledged the difficulties he encountered along the way.
“Well, it has been a tough road,” expressed the new professional.

For her part, Yalani Luciano, invested as a graduate in Early Childhood Education, described the moment as “a very, very rewarding achievement.”
Luciano has already defined his next academic goal: to continue strengthening his professional training through postgraduate studies. “To do a master’s degree,” he replied when asked about his plans after receiving his degree.
These students were part of a day in which the UASD presented 716 new undergraduate professionals to Dominican society during a solemn ceremony held in the institution’s Aula Magna.
The ceremony was led by the rector of the academy, Dr. Jorge Asjana David, together with the members of the University Council.
During her keynote speech, Asjana David highlighted the effort, perseverance, and personal and family sacrifices that accompany students’ education until they earn a university degree.
“Behind every degree there are years of study, sacrifices, and family efforts; but, above all, there is the conviction that knowledge constitutes one of the surest paths toward freedom, dignity, social mobility, and progress,” he/she affirmed.

On the eve of the anniversary of the 1863 Restoration War, the rector urged the new professionals to take an active role in the development of the Dominican Republic and called on them to become “the new restorers of sustainable development” of the country.
The university reported that Education Sciences concentrated the highest number of graduates, with 326, followed by Legal and Political Sciences, with 106, and Humanities, with 101.
About the UASD
The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) is the oldest public higher education institution in the Americas. Its origins date back to 1538, when it was created by the papal bull In Apostolatus Culmine by Pope Paul III, based on the then-existing General Study that operated in Santo Domingo.
Throughout nearly five centuries, the UASD has played an important role in the training of Dominican professionals and in the development of the country’s higher education. Its public nature has also made it one of the main alternatives for students seeking to access a university degree.

The institution has gone through different historical periods and transformations. One of the most important episodes in its history occurred in 1966, when university autonomy was constitutionally established. Since then, the UASD has maintained its status as a public and autonomous university, with a wide academic offering that includes areas such as education, health sciences, engineering, legal and political sciences, humanities, and economic and social sciences.
The institution has also had a relevant participation in different moments of Dominican political, social, and cultural life. Its classrooms have trained generations of professionals who have subsequently joined public, private, academic, and scientific sectors.
Currently, UASD graduation ceremonies represent one of the main moments of celebration for thousands of Dominican families, as they mark the culmination of years of academic training and the entry of new professionals into the labor market and different areas of society.
