This is how Venezuelans celebrate outside the RD embassy

Santo Domingo. – In an atmosphere of celebration, slogans and tricolor flags, dozens of Venezuelans residing in the Dominican Republic gathered this Sunday in front of the Venezuelan embassy in the DR, in Mirador Sur to show their support for what they consider a historic moment for Venezuela and demand the full restoration of democracy in their country.

From the early hours of the afternoon, the protesters began to arrive at the place with banners, music and messages of hope, claiming to feel “emotionally liberated” in the face of recent events related to the Venezuelan political crisis. Cleber, one of the spokespersons present, expressed that the meeting has a symbolic character and international support.
“What the vast majority of Venezuelans who are outside feel is enormous satisfaction. This call is to support what is happening and, above all, for democracy to return to Venezuela as soon as possible,” he affirmed. The demonstrator reiterated his support for the president-elect Edmundo González, elected in the July 28, 2024 elections, as well as the leadership of María Corina Machado. “She has risked everything for Venezuela and it is time for us to do the same. We are more than eight million Venezuelans who are abroad and today it is our turn to say present,” he said. Several participants agreed that they would return to Venezuela only if security, stability, and opportunities are guaranteed.

“We all want to return, but we need a real democracy, a government that guarantees security and the possibility of prospering in our own country,” they stated.

Another of the attendees highlighted that the Venezuelan cause has transcended borders. “Venezuela is a global cause. Since yesterday the issue has been international news. Today a worldwide call was made so that Venezuelans, in front of embassies and consulates, continue to press for justice, for the release of political prisoners and for the sovereign vote of the people to be respected,” he expressed. Among the testimonies was also that of Roxana, a Venezuelan with a decade residing in the Dominican Republic, who assured that the joy has been shared even by the Dominican community. “This country has welcomed us with affection and today we feel that they celebrate almost with the same enthusiasm as us. It’s an immense emotion,” she said. Likewise, she was recently able to reunite with her family in Venezuela and assured that the feeling now is different. “Returning is always a happiness, but this time we feel that it will be different, that we will return to a different Venezuela. The heart is full of hope,” she expressed visibly moved.
