Santo Domingo.– The rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, regretted the death of Lyedger Peña Encarnación, security employee who died last Saturday after being seriously injured in the shooting that occurred on Thursday inside the university campus.

During the funeral held this Monday at the Blandino funeral home, Beltrán expressed that the university community is “very dismayed and sad” by the event, and confirmed that the Legal Consultancy of the institution is already in charge of the case.

“This has represented immense pain for the entire university family, because he was a server very dedicated to his work,” said the rector when approached by the press. Beltrán also reported that the university will launch, starting in November, a comprehensive security plan that was designed almost a year ago, with the aim of reinforcing protection on campus. “**We already have a plan in place for almost a year. We are going to put it into execution, it includes new vehicles, engines, electronic arms and even trains that will transport the students from the parking tower, which has already been rehabilitated,”** he explained. The rector indicated that the delay in the implementation of the plan was due to bureaucratic purchasing and contracting processes, but assured that its application will begin in the coming weeks. Lyedger Peña, a resident of Ensanche Isabelita and father of two girls, suffered injuries that affected his lungs and liver after the armed attack. Another member of the security team was seriously injured in an arm. According to university authorities, the shooting would have been triggered by a previous conflict between the aggressor, a law student, and security personnel, after he was caught the previous night in a restricted area of the campus.
