UASD Rector urges students to dream big and seize opportunities

Santo Domingo. — The rector of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, received in the Rector’s Office the winning students of the “Win the Semester” contest, to whom he offered a welcome message focused on discipline, perseverance and commitment to knowledge as pillars for personal improvement and the development of the country.

During the meeting, students received Samsung electronic tablets to support their academic training.

Beltrán Crisóstomo highlighted that the students are the raison d’être of the state academy and shared a reflection on his own career, recalling that he also began his training in this house of higher education.

“This university opened the doors for me and has made it possible for me to be speaking to you today as rector, a sign that with opportunity, discipline, perseverance and effort you can go beyond what we visualize,” he said.

The rector emphasized that the Primada de América remains an institution open to knowledge, the plurality of thought, and social mobility, without distinction of origin or economic condition, highlighting that the true value lies in the desire to advance and contribute to collective well-being. He also highlighted the progress made during his administration, including the updating of study programs, the streamlining of student services, the strengthening of virtual platforms through the free delivery of electronic tablets, and improvements in internal campus mobility, including the railway transport system that operates within the university campus. In a moment of interaction, the rector used the “UASD train” as a metaphor for the formative process, pointing out that all students are already part of the “train of learning and opportunities” offered by a public and open university, conceived as a center of intellectual life. Upon concluding, he urged the youth to keep their ability to dream alive:

“Dream a lot, dream big, and don’t let anyone or any setback be stronger than your determination.”

The event was attended by the president of the Student Federation, Pedro Martínez (Fonsy); the general director of Communications, Roberto Tejada Muñoz; and other members of the academic community.
