In 2025, foreign investment reached $5.032 billion, 11.3% more than in 2024
Santo Domingo.- The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) reported this Sunday that, according to preliminary figures, foreign direct investment (FDI) reached 5,032.3 million U.S. dollars at the end of 2025, which represented an increase of 509.1 million, 11.3% more, compared to 2024.
By sector, half of the FDI revenue went to the tourism (26.3%) and energy (23.8%) sectors.
In that investment, the BRCD highlighted that the energy sector expanded its share within FDI in recent years, going from representing 9.2% of its total in 2019 to said 23.8% at the end of 2025.

Likewise, another “relevant” sector for FDI has been real estate, whose growth is “closely related to the boost in tourism in the country,” the Central Bank highlighted. In addition, foreign direct investment in Real Estate represented 15.7% of the total, commercial 10.5%, and free trade zones 8.7%. The institution also pointed out that in addition to the increase in FDI flows (11.3%) and remittances (10.3%) “the other variables of the external sector also showed a favorable performance during the year 2025”. In this sense, total exports reached 15,930.6 million dollars, which represented an increase of 14.4% compared to 2024. Exports from free trade zones reached a figure of $8,548.6 million, increasing by 0.6% year-on-year; meanwhile, gold exports stood out, reaching $2,413.2 million, an additional $913.3 million (60.9%) compared to 2024, driven by improvements in production and by the historic price levels recorded by the mineral in international markets. Furthermore, the BCRD highlighted that tourism revenues for the end of 2025 totaled $11,318.5 million, approximately $346.1 million (3.2%) above the revenues of 2024. “This result was mainly due to the increase in visitor arrivals during the year 2025, which reached 11.6 million,” stated the Central Bank.On the other hand, according to these preliminary figures, the foreign exchange income generated by FDI, remittances, tourism, exports of goods and other services exceeded 47.3 billion dollars in 2025, which implies an increase of about 3.4 billion compared to 2024, “which contributes to the relative stability of the exchange rate”.
