Dominican pianist and interpreter Belkis Concepción defended her daughter, Belkis Marie Batista, the result of her relationship with the late journalist Carlos Batista Matos, after the controversy generated after she married her partner, Isabella Espinal, in a civil ceremony held in Miami. Through a statement published on her social media, the artist expressed her deep sorrow and assured that, as a mother, she feels the need to speak out of respect and pain in the face of the controversy that has arisen in the media and digital platforms.

Belkis’ statements arise especially after comments made by entertainment commentator Amelia Alcántara, who allegedly blamed Belkis Marie for her father’s death, claiming that he did not agree with her romantic relationship with another woman.The orchestra conductor also stated that, contrary to what has been spread in recent hours, there was always unconditional love and support from Carlos Batista towards his daughter. Likewise, she assured that both she and the renowned communicator felt deeply proud of Belkis Marie.“It is very sad to see how some media and people dare to make irresponsible and false comments about the death of my daughter’s father, trying to relate it to personal decisions in her life. My daughter always had the love, support and acceptance of her father and mine. He knew perfectly well her life, her decisions and her orientation, and that was never a reason for conflict between them,” the statement expresses.
