Belkis Concepcion asks for respect after attacks against her daughter for marriage to another woman

Dominican pianist and interpreter Belkis Concepción defended her daughter, Belkis Marie Batista, the result of her relationship with the late journalist Carlos Batista Matos, after the controversy generated after she married her partner, Isabella Espinal, in a civil ceremony held in Miami. Through a statement published on her social media, the artist expressed her deep sorrow and assured that, as a mother, she feels the need to speak out of respect and pain in the face of the controversy that has arisen in the media and digital platforms.

Belkis’ statements arise especially after comments made by entertainment commentator Amelia Alcántara, who allegedly blamed Belkis Marie for her father’s death, claiming that he did not agree with her romantic relationship with another woman.

“It is very sad to see how some media and people dare to make irresponsible and false comments about the death of my daughter’s father, trying to relate it to personal decisions in her life. My daughter always had the love, support and acceptance of her father and mine. He knew perfectly well her life, her decisions and her orientation, and that was never a reason for conflict between them,” the statement expresses.

The orchestra conductor also stated that, contrary to what has been spread in recent hours, there was always unconditional love and support from Carlos Batista towards his daughter. Likewise, she assured that both she and the renowned communicator felt deeply proud of Belkis Marie.

“No one has the right to invent stories or make judgments that only cause more pain to a family going through a difficult time. It’s very easy to talk from the outside, but they can’t imagine the deep damage that malicious words can cause in such painful moments,” she added. Belkis also highlighted that behind every news story there is a family going through real mourning and seeking peace amidst the pain. As a mother, she confessed that it deeply hurts her to see her daughter facing cruel comments while still processing the loss of her father. Finally, he called for reflection and asked for greater humanity, respect, and sensitivity before expressing opinions about the lives of others. “The truth and love that existed between a father and his daughter will be above all falsehood,” he concluded.
