The Dominican-born rapper, Cardi B, filled all Dominicans with pride this past weekend after her performance on Saturday Night Live, alongside the renowned traditional merengue artist El Prodigio, once again publicly displaying the unbreakable bond that unites her to Dominican culture. In a video posted by Manolo Pujols, better known as Manolo Güira, one of the members of the group El Prodigio, Cardi B proudly exclaimed that she is the number one fan of merengue típico, reiterating, after her participation in the aforementioned program, her love for this native genre of the Dominican Republic.

The ties that bind Cardi B to the Dominican Republic are thanks to her father, as he is originally from the municipality of Castañuelas, in the province of Monte Cristi, in the northwest of the country. Despite her global popularity and recognition, Cardi B has not lost that closeness to the idiosyncrasies of the Dominican people, sharing through her social media, on numerous occasions, topics of interest and current affairs in the Dominican Republic and videos singing Dominican music, especially typical merengue, dembow and bachata, and at the same time bringing her children to the Dominican Republic to visit their grandparents’ house and give them an experience of life in the countryside, despite her success and fortune.“My people, we are here on Saturday Night Live, with my Dominicans. We are strong, taking the típico to the top; the number one fan of the típico is me from Monte Cristi Baby,” said Cardi B, smiling and visibly excited.
