Santiago Matías highlights El Blachy as a reference for traditional merengue abroad

After his presentation at the Agganis Arena in Boston, the typical merengue singer El Blachy spoke with De Último Minuto, where he expressed how he felt about his participation in “Alofoke at the Agganis,” highlighting that beyond the spectacle, the moment represented a firm step in the international projection of typical merengue. The artist expressed that seeing thousands of people chanting and dancing to this traditional Dominican rhythm on a large stage confirms that the genre has transcended borders. He added that his mission continues to be to take the essence of typical Dominican music to new markets, demonstrating that what was once considered a more regional movement today connects with global audiences. For his part, producer and communicator Santiago Matías highlighted El Blachy’s talent, discipline, and authenticity, assuring that he is one of the artists who has best worked on the internationalization of typical merengue in recent years. Matías valued his artistic growth and his ability to adapt the genre to large stages without losing his identity, assuring that his success in the United States demonstrates how typical music is no longer exclusively regional.
