The Spanish justice system suspended the prison sentence of singer-songwriter Diego Ramón Jiménez Salazar, artistically known as Diego ‘El Cigala’, despite having been sentenced to 25 months in prison for several crimes of abuse against his ex-wife. The decision was confirmed by his lawyer, Eduardo Aguilera, after the sentence became final following its ratification by higher courts.
The measure was adopted by Criminal Court number 3 of Jerez de la Frontera, in Cádiz, considering that none of the sentences imposed for the three gender-based violence crimes exceeds the limit established by Spanish legislation to order the immediate serving of a prison sentence.

However, the suspension is conditional upon compliance with several obligations. During the next two years, the performer may not commit new crimes and must respect the restraining order imposed in favor of the victim, which prohibits him from communicating with her or approaching within 200 meters.
The conviction against the artist became final after both the Madrid Court and the Supreme Court rejected the appeals filed by the parties and confirmed the ruling issued in December 2024.

According to the judicial resolution, Diego ‘El Cigala’ was found guilty of three episodes of mistreatment that occurred in different locations in Spain: one in a hotel in Jerez de la Frontera, another in an establishment in Palafrugell, in Girona, and a third in the home he shared with his then-partner in Jerez, considered by the justice system as an aggravated crime.
In addition to the prison sentences, the singer was also convicted of a minor and continuous crime of harassment in the domestic sphere, a sanction that he must serve through 25 days of permanent location at a residence other than that of the victim. The sentence also maintains the protection measures issued in favor of his ex-wife.
