British singer Steve Ellis, best known as the lead vocalist of the 1960s pop-rock band Love Affair, has died at the age of 76. He passed away on October 30 following complications from a chronic illness, according to a statement shared by his representatives.

Ellis rose to international recognition with Love Affair’s version of “Everlasting Love,” which reached No. 1 on the UK singles chart in 1968. The song was originally recorded by American singer Robert Knight in 1967.

The band went on to score several other successful singles, including “Rainbow Valley,” “A Day Without Love” and “Bringing on Back the Good Times.”

After his time with Love Affair, Ellis pursued a solo career and collaborated with several musicians, including British singer-songwriter Paul Weller.
