Taylor Swift made music history by becoming the most awarded artist in MTV Video Music Awards history after breaking her tie with Beyoncé, who had 30 trophies.
Swift achieved the milestone after receiving the inaugural Artist Director Honors, an award recognizing artists whose work behind the camera has reshaped visual storytelling in music videos.
The singer also took home the night’s top prize, Video of the Year, for “The Fate of Ophelia,” from her album The Life of a Showgirl.
During her emotional acceptance speech, Swift thanked her fans for supporting her throughout two decades of visual work. She has written and directed 18 of her nearly 60 music videos.
Swift also paid tribute to the late Dolly Parton, dedicating the award to her and calling her the “ultimate showgirl.”
