Santo Domingo.- In the Dominican Republic, Christmas is synonymous with merengue, and it was this rhythm that managed to fill the Teatro La Fiesta of the Jaragua hotel to its full capacity with the dance concert D’parranda navideña, starring Milly Quezada, Fernando Villalona, and the Conjunto Quisqueya.
The first group to take the stage was Conjunto Quisqueya, performing their well-known seasonal songs, which has made them a traditional orchestra of Dominican Christmases.

People stood up from the moment the show started, taking their partners and dancing to the rhythm of La Juma, La banda borracha, Jocosidades, La juma II, Los males de micaela, Bebo hoy, En nene se despertó, María Cristina, La parranda Quisqueya and one of the most sung, Mi piel, also called “Mira como se me pone”, performed by Javish Victoria.
The sound of this band, based in Puerto Rico, but all Dominican, impacted the public to such an extent that even the youngest got up to dance and went to experience their music live.
“Thank you for always welcoming us with that joy, that makes us feel more than good, because we realize the affection they have for us,” said Javish.
The Quisqueya continued to infect the public with songs like La rosa blanca, Felicítame, to finish with La trulla navideña, leaving the attendees wanting more.
The Queen of Merengue
The party continued with Milly Quezada, who took the stage with the joy that characterizes her and started with Volvió Juanita, one of her most popular merengues of her entire career, released during the Christmas season of 1984.
Other merengues were La que me robó tu amor, Toma mi vida, Solo contigo, Porque me amaste, Para darte mi vida, La guacherna, Se formó el rumbón, La pimienta es la que pica, Lo tengo todo, En tus manos and Lo mío es mío, among others.
“I want to thank the affection and support of all that audience that accompanies us tonight, we are going to have a good time, because that’s what we came for,” said an emotional Milly Quezada.
The closing act was by a great, Fernando Villalona, who had one of his best performances in many years, as recognized by the audience.
It began with El Quijote, a meringue that no one danced to, as the audience took that moment to stand up, record, and take photos of the artist with their cell phones.
He continued with the Christmas theme “Déjame volver”, written by the deceased singer Feliz Cumbé, one of the most beautiful songs by El Mayimbe.
They were followed by Cama y mesa, I love you too much, Tabaco y ron, El gusto and one that can never be left out: Soy dominicano. I feel joyful tonight, how beautiful this audience looks dancing and singing my songs, I thank you”, said Villalona in a cheerful tone.
Other merengues were Feliz Cumbé, Música Latina, Mi pueblo, Amaneciendo, La lluvia, Me ha dejado solo and many more that left the audience wanting to continue seeing a Villalona with energy and a powerful voice.
