12 injured in shooting near Florida A&M University during homecoming celebrations

Twelve people, including six minors, were injured in a shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida, during homecoming celebrations on Saturday. The Tallahassee Police Department said 11 of the 12 victims were shot, and three sustained serious injuries, including one minor. The remaining victims were reported to be in stable condition.
Police Chief Lawrence Revell said at a press conference early Sunday that the youngest victim was 11 years old. One person who was not shot was injured while fleeing the scene. Revell said preliminary information indicated that an altercation between individuals preceded the shooting, describing it as an isolated incident involving two or three people. Authorities believe one shooter was involved.
No arrests had been made as of early Sunday, and police had not taken anyone into custody. Revell said investigators were working to establish what happened and identify those responsible, urging witnesses to come forward.
The shooting occurred at approximately 8 p.m. near an intersection adjacent to Bragg Memorial Stadium. Earlier that evening, Florida A&M’s Rattlers had hosted the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions for the historically Black university’s annual homecoming football game.
Following the incident, Florida A&M issued a statement on X asking members of its campus community to avoid the area. The university said the shooting occurred near campus and stated that the campus remained safe.
“Our hearts are with the victims and everyone affected by tonight’s incident on Perry Street,” the university said.
Florida State University, located about a mile from Florida A&M, also issued an emergency alert about the shooting and said there was no indication that members of its campus community were involved.
