Beijing.- A 4.9-magnitude earthquake shook the city of Yibin in China’s central Sichuan province this Monday, an area that has recorded several earthquakes in the last two months, reported the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The earthquake occurred in Changning County of the aforementioned locality at 08:26 local time (00:26 GMT) and had its epicenter at coordinates 28.32 degrees north latitude and 105.01 degrees east longitude, according to the measurement released by the agency.
At the moment, no information has been provided regarding possible victims, damage, or the depth of the epicenter.
Yibin, located in southern Sichuan, has recorded several seismic movements in recent weeks, some of them concentrated in Gao County, near Changning.

On August 7, another 4.9-magnitude earthquake shook the aforementioned Gao county, also belonging to Yibin. Four days earlier, on August 3, Sichuan had recorded two earthquakes, of magnitude 4.8 and 4.2, in Gao less than twelve hours apart, with no initial reports of casualties, collapses, or disruptions to basic services.
On June 29, the area suffered a 5.5 magnitude earthquake that left at least 15 people with minor injuries and general damage to about 900 homes, according to the official report.
Sichuan, with about 83 million inhabitants spread over an area slightly smaller than that of Spain, is located in an area of frequent seismic activity.
In 2022, a 6.8-magnitude earthquake left 93 dead and 24 missing in this province, which in May 2008 suffered a catastrophic 8-magnitude earthquake that left more than 90,000 dead and missing.
