Colorado doctor and trapeze artist dies in plane crash with his 3-year-old daughter

Aaron Gingrich, a 43-year-old emergency medicine professor at the University of Colorado Anschutz, died alongside his 3-year-old daughter, Isabella, when the single-engine plane he was piloting crashed near Eldorado Springs, Colorado, on October 4. According to a preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the aircraft flew erratically for nearly three hours, reaching altitudes above 15,000 feet before crashing into mountainous terrain near a ridgeline.
Gingrich, who held a private pilot’s license and also performed with the Switzerland-based circus group Apesanteur Trapèze Volant, was reportedly criticized by another pilot for a dangerous takeoff earlier that day. Authorities have not determined the cause of the crash or why the flight followed such an erratic path. The wreckage was located the following morning, and friends and family have launched a fundraiser to support Isabella’s mother, Lauren Willcox, as she grieves the loss of her daughter.
