Lima.- Leftist candidate Roberto Sánchez, who is close to losing Peru’s presidential runoff election to right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori, announced this Saturday that he will request the annulment of the votes cast by Peruvians abroad, which would give the victory to him, as he was the most voted candidate within the national territory.
n” “nIn a press conference with foreign correspondents, Sánchez anticipated this appeal after electoral authorities rejected an initial appeal to annul the votes from more than 1,700 polling stations in the June 7th election.
With 99.64% of the votes counted, Fujimori has 50.11% of the valid votes compared to 49.88% for Sánchez, with a difference of 41,633 votes between them, but the percentages are reversed if the votes from abroad are subtracted, so that Sánchez achieves 50.11% of the valid ballots with 39,614 more than Fujimori, who records 49.89%.
