The Dominican Republic is among the eight countries where arrests were made during an international operation against a network allegedly dedicated to child sexual exploitation and the distribution of child sexual abuse material through digital platforms.

In the country, one person was arrested as part of an operation coordinated by the Community of Police of the Americas (AMERIPOL), in which police authorities from 15 nations participated. An investigation started in 2024

The investigations began in July 2024, after authorities in Zaragoza, Spain, identified a man who was allegedly distributing audiovisual content related to the sexual abuse of minors through an online communication application.

During the initial proceedings, the agents carried out a search of his home and seized electronic equipment. The investigation also led to Toledo, where another residence linked to a second suspect was raided.

The analysis of the devices made it possible to establish that one of the suspects allegedly used minors from his family environment to produce photographs and videos of sexual content, which he subsequently disseminated on digital platforms. Another man is also being investigated for allegedly offering money in exchange for having sexual relations with a minor related to the first detainee. Ministry of the Interior+1

Electronic equipment seized

As part of the interventions, the authorities seized 19 mobile phones, four computers, four hard drives, and several USB devices, the content of which was incorporated into the investigative process.

The examination of digital evidence allowed for the identification of users located in different countries who were allegedly participating in the exchange and distribution of child sexual abuse material. The detainees are being investigated for alleged crimes of sexual assault against minors under 16 years of age, production, possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, exhibitionism, child prostitution, and the grooming of children and adolescents for sexual purposes via the internet.

The Spanish National Police highlighted that cooperation between international agencies and the analysis of digital evidence were fundamental to extending investigations beyond their borders and identifying the suspects.
