A major fire at an auto repair and body shop in Coney Island, Brooklyn, left five firefighters injured, all of whom were taken to a hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, according to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).
The fire broke out shortly after 9:30 a.m. at a single-story auto shop located at 3088 Cropsey Avenue. The blaze required a large emergency response, with at least 45 fire trucks and more than 140 firefighters and emergency medical personnel arriving at the scene.
The five injured firefighters were transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health for treatment. Their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Images captured by the Citizen app showed a dense column of black smoke rising from the single-story building as firefighters worked to enter the structure.
The fire was brought under control at approximately 10:15 a.m. Monday.
