A massive five-alarm fire tore through a residential building in the Norwood section of the Bronx on Wednesday afternoon, leaving at least 11 people injured, including three firefighters.
According to local authorities, two civilians remain in critical condition. Firefighters continue working to contain the blaze after it erupted in an apartment building on East 209th Street.
Officials said the fire began following an explosion on the building’s third floor. The exact cause remains under investigation. While early reports suggested a possible lithium-ion e-bike battery explosion, authorities have not confirmed that information.
Residents have been advised to avoid the area, keep their windows closed due to heavy smoke, and expect significant traffic disruptions as emergency crews remain at the scene.
