Miami.- Five people were injured by stabbings at New York’s Penn Station and a man was arrested this Sunday while the city is on maximum security alert due to the scheduled visit on Monday of U.S. President Donald Trump and the start of the World Cup.
The suspect allegedly began stabbing people after 7:00 p.m. local time (23:00 GMT) at train stations, the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) informed local media, although they have not yet released their identity or the motives for the crime.
The authorities transported the injured to Bellevue Hospital, where one person has serious injuries and the rest minor to moderate ones, according to the fire department.

The alleged perpetrator, who was taken into police custody, is an “individual believed to be emotionally disturbed,” sources close to the investigation told the New York Post.
The event occurs hours after it emerged that the official viewing party for the third game of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden scheduled for this Monday was canceled due to increased security measures for the expected attendance of Trump, and New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
Furthermore, the city’s police commissioner, Jessica S. Tisch, has previously warned about the enormous workload the force is facing, not only due to the Knicks’ historic NBA run, but also because of the imminent arrival of the FIFA World Cup.
