Iran said Monday it is not currently engaged in negotiations with the United States, contradicting President Donald Trump’s claim that talks with Tehran would resume.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei told reporters that “we currently have no negotiations with the United States” and said any future discussions would depend on how the situation develops.
Baghaei’s comments came hours after Trump said he had canceled a “massive attack” against Iran and claimed negotiations aimed at reaching an agreement would restart on Monday.
Iranian officials stressed that their current diplomatic efforts are focused on bilateral talks with Oman regarding a proposal to establish a secure navigation route through the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran maintains that progress on the strategic waterway depends on broader regional conditions, including what it describes as U.S. hostility, the naval blockade and ongoing military tensions.
