Israel launched the highest number of projectiles in Lebanon since the agreement on Wednesday, says UN

Beirut.- The Israeli army launched a total of 113 projectiles on Wednesday against different points in southern Lebanon, the highest number of attacks recorded in a single day since the security framework agreement reached between both countries at the end of June, the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) reported this Thursday.

“Peacekeepers continue to observe daily violations of Lebanese airspace and military activities on the ground. The 113 shells fired yesterday by the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) constitute the highest figure recorded by UNIFIL since June 21,” the blue helmets indicated in a statement.

The war in Lebanon broke out on March 2 after the Shiite group Hezbollah launched attacks against Israel in response to the US and Israeli offensive in late February against Iran, and since then more than 4,300 people have died and another more than one million have been displaced from their homes.

However, in mid-April a brief ceasefire was implemented and rounds of talks began between the Governments of Lebanon and Israel, without the participation of Hezbollah, which resulted in the security framework agreement of June 26.

The UN mission recalled that violence “remains significantly below that of previous months,” although it warned that “the general situation remains fragile,” at a time when Israel continues to attack Lebanese territory amid the seventh round of talks with Lebanon, which is being held in Rome and is mediated by the United States.

“Dialogue and coordination remain essential for de-escalation and fundamental to restoring full stability in southern Lebanon,” the mission insisted.

This Thursday, the Emergency Operations Center of the Lebanese Ministry of Health stated in a brief statement that eight civilians were wounded in new Israeli attacks against southern Lebanon, this time in the southern municipality of Burj al Shamali.

In addition, the Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported that the Israeli Army intensified its attacks in the last few hours, especially in the Tyre district, where it carried out a series of airstrikes and artillery shelling.

For its part, the Israeli Army stated that two of its soldiers died in southern Lebanon.
