Lima, June 1 (EFE).- Lima’s new airport debuted this Sunday with the landing of an Iberia flight from Madrid, which was received with honors and great attention, after 12 hours in which no plane took off or landed in the Peruvian capital. “The first flight of the new Jorge Chávez! With a symbolic crossing of waters, we welcomed the first aircraft to land at the new terminal. It is an international flight from Iberia, coming from Madrid, whose passengers will experience a new experience in our modern facilities,” confirmed the new terminal, which retains the name of the previous one.
During the early hours of the morning, airport officials moved more than 50 aircraft from the old terminal to the new one, for the start of operations.
Throughout this day, the new airfield expects to operate 250 domestic and international flights.
Given the new operational processes, passengers are advised to arrive early to avoid inconveniences and thus enjoy “a more comfortable, agile and efficient experience” at the new airport.
Last Friday, the Peruvian president, Dina Boluarte, presided over the ceremonial inauguration of the airport, where she stated that this “monumental work” with an investment of about 2.4 billion dollars opens a stage of modernity and the future.
Last May 15th, the new terminal began a testing phase during which 116 international flights (58 arrivals and 58 departures) operated, and 22,764 passengers were mobilized to and from cities such as Buenos Aires, Madrid, Mexico City, Santo Domingo, and Punta Cana.
