The Bryson Fire continued spreading through the hills north of Malibu, California, on Friday, October 16, burning 146.2 acres as firefighters worked to contain the blaze. Authorities reported 17% containment after the fire grew rapidly overnight, threatening Los Angeles County’s Camp Fred Miller juvenile detention facility to the east and Malibu Country Club to the west. One firefighter was injured, although the circumstances were not immediately known.

Officials issued evacuation orders and warnings and closed several roads as strong winds and high temperatures threatened to fuel the fire. Residents were directed to Agoura High School in Agoura Hills, with animal shelters available at Agoura Animal Care Center and Pierce College Equestrian Center. As of Friday morning, Malibu officials said they were unaware of any homes damaged or destroyed. The cause of the fire remained under investigation, while a Red Flag Warning was in effect through Saturday evening.
