New York opens housing lottery for 57 apartments in Queens with rents starting at US$1,842

A new housing lottery offers the opportunity to access 57 rent-regulated apartments in Queens, where New York authorities have an open call to select future tenants.
The residences are part of the DOMI residential complex, located at 29-24 40th Avenue in Long Island City, and feature monthly rents ranging from US$1,842 to US$5,200, depending on the features of each unit.
The process is aimed at households of between one and seven people that meet the income limits established for the different housing categories. Applications may be submitted until November 10, 2026.
This housing lottery is part of NYC Housing Connect, a platform used by the city to facilitate access to housing with rents subject to affordability requirements, amidst the high housing costs faced by numerous New York families.
Housing lottery prices
The call for applications includes studios and one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, distributed across different income categories.
Among the lower-cost options are 14 studios with rents of US$1,842 per month and five one-bedroom apartments available for US$1,962 per month.
These 19 units are intended for households that meet the requirements corresponding to 70% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
The other 38 units are classified within the 130% AMI segment, with higher rents and different financial requirements.

The residential complex features a gym, terrace, co-working spaces, and laundry and drying equipment inside the apartments.
However, future tenants will be responsible for paying for electricity, including consumption for cooking and heating/cooling the homes.
Housing lottery requirements
To qualify for one of the apartments, applicants must demonstrate annual household income within the established parameters for each unit.
The general eligible income range is between US$68,092 and US$273,520 per year, although the required amount will depend on the number of household members and the apartment requested.
Meeting the economic requirements does not guarantee the allocation of a home, as participants must go through a selection process and subsequent eligibility verification.
How to apply for the housing lottery
Interested individuals can complete their application free of charge through the official NYC Housing Connect portal by searching for the DOMI project or the advertisement number 7693.
To participate, you must create an account, complete your personal and family details, declare your income, and verify that you meet the criteria for the selected housing.
The registration deadline is Tuesday, November 10, 2026, so it is recommended to complete the procedure in advance and verify that the registered information is up to date.
Applicants can access the official platform directly at https://housingconnect.nyc.gov/.
Once the application period has concluded, the selection process will begin. Participants whose files are reviewed may receive requests for additional documentation, such as proof of income, identification, and financial records.
The authorities warn that registration is free and that no person or private company can guarantee the awarding of an apartment in exchange for money.
The program represents an alternative for New York residents seeking rent-regulated housing, particularly in sectors such as Long Island City, where housing demand continues to be high.
