Opposition leader in Spain: Delcy, “accomplice of the dictatorship”, cannot be president of Venezuela

Edmundo González and María Corina Machado affirm they represent “the democratic path” for Venezuela to regain its freedom

Madrid.- The leader of the conservative Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, said this Sunday that the executive vice president of Nicolás Maduro’s Government, Delcy Rodríguez, “cannot” lead Venezuela because she has been “accomplice and protagonist of the dictatorship, corruption and looting” of the country and represents its “darkest past”.

The leader of the opposition in Spain stated that the continuity of Delcy Rodríguez “would be nothing more than an operation of continuity of the regime”, when the Venezuelan people “have already rejected (that regime) unequivocally at the polls”, in a statement on X. Therefore, he reiterated that Edmundo González Urrutia and María Corina Machado represent “the democratic, peaceful and constitutional path for Venezuela to regain its freedom”.

Criticizes Spain’s actions

It also denounces that the Spanish Government has “renounced its diplomatic assets and its moral leadership to confront Maduro’s tyranny”, and has criticized that “the influence and respect that Spain has lost in this process will be difficult to recover”.

“Before anyone else, it was the regime itself that disdained the rules-based order by stealing the last elections and ignoring the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people, without forgetting the years of repression, tyranny and plunder. Reversing this is, therefore, essential,” he stated.

The PP president has also remembered the thousands of prisoners in Venezuelan jails, “including around twenty Spanish citizens whose only crime has been to desire freedom and fight for it democratically.” Therefore, he pointed out that the issue of exile must be addressed, as well as Spanish interests in Venezuela: “We will be firm in their defense, often compromised by the dangerous friendships of part of the Spanish left,” he has emphasized. For his part, the president of the far-right Vox, Santiago Abascal, said that now is the time to end “the resistance” of the executive vice president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, “the accomplice of (Pedro) Sánchez”.

Trump assures there will be no new attacks against Venezuela

This Saturday, President Donald Trump assured that he will not deploy troops in Venezuela nor carry out new attacks against the country “if Maduro’s vice president (Delcy Rodríguez) does” what they want from the US Administration. In an appearance from his personal residence in Mar-a-Lago (Florida, United States), Trump highlighted that “it would be very difficult” for the main Venezuelan opposition leader, María Corina Machado, to preside over the nation, considering that “she does not have support or respect within the country.”
