Pope Leo XIV resumes his activities from the hospital after undergoing lung cancer surgery

During the surgical intervention, the doctors removed the lower lobe of the pontiff’s right lung using a video-assisted technique. The operation concluded without complications, according to the medical statement released by the Holy See.
Leo XIV’s postoperative recovery is proceeding normally, according to Vatican sources cited in the report.
Leo XIV celebrates mass
This Thursday, the pontiff returned to concelebrate mass in a room set up on the tenth floor of the Gemelli hospital, where he remains admitted.
The space was conditioned because the medical center’s chapel is currently under construction.
At the moment, the American-Peruvian pope has not received any visitors and remains accompanied by his two secretaries.
Recovery of Leo XIV
The Holy See had reported on Wednesday that the blood tests and chest X-ray performed after the intervention showed a normal postoperative evolution.
He also communicated that the pontiff had begun respiratory physiotherapy, started walking, and resumed his usual diet.
