The White House bans CNN again from traveling with Trump on Air Force One

The White House once again prevented a CNN team this Tuesday from traveling with the president of the United States, Donald Trump, aboard the presidential plane Air Force One, amidst the Republican’s offensive against some critical media outlets.

CNN was assigned to cover the president’s campaign trip to North Carolina under the rotation system used by the country’s major networks to form the small group of journalists that accompanies the president, known as the ‘pool,’ but the White House prevented it from participating.

In a statement, the network denounced that this exclusion breaks with a “decades-long tradition” and warned that it will take legal action if the White House “continues to prevent” its news teams from covering the president’s activities.

“These attempts to retaliate against and discriminate against CNN based on the content of its news coverage are wrong, counterproductive, and unlawful,” wrote Ted Boutrous, outside counsel for CNN, in a letter to the Department of Justice.

In September, Trump attempted to block journalists from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from accessing the White House complex, unhappy with his Administration’s coverage and after accusing them of spreading “fake news.”

The three media outlets filed a lawsuit alleging that the Government was violating the First Amendment of the Constitution, which protects freedom of the press.

A federal judge ordered their access to the complex to be restored, a measure that became effective, although the White House continues to exclude CNN from the president’s trips.
