Thousands of people gathered Wednesday in Madrid’s Plaza de Cibeles in support of Ceuta and Spain’s territorial integrity, while protesters also called for the resignation of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
According to Madrid’s Government Delegation, around 50,000 people took part in the demonstration, which was organized by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP).
People attending the rally chanted demands for Sánchez to step down as they expressed their support for the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta.
Popular Party leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo and Vox leader Santiago Abascal also joined the demonstration.
Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida read a manifesto defending Ceuta’s status as Spanish territory and the territorial integrity of Spain.
