The U.S. President, Donald Trump, declared to journalists that he does not consider it appropriate at this time to request a ceasefire from the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, in the conflict in Ukraine. He also warned that, if necessary, he will adopt a firm and decisive stance.
When asked by journalists aboard the Air Force One presidential plane if now is the time to pressure Moscow and Kyiv to reach a ceasefire agreement, Trump replied that “it doesn’t seem like it“, before adding: “But at the right time, if I have to do it, it will be tough”.

Earlier this Thursday, the U.S. leader stated that Vladimir Putin has “failed” in managing the conflict in Ukraine. Regarding this, he stated that, due to his relationship with the Russian leader, he expected a quick resolution to the conflict, but it turned out to be more complex than he had expected.
However, Trump expressed confidence that, ultimately, Russia and Ukraine will reach an agreement. “But in war you never know. War is something different. Things happen that are very contrary to what you thought. You thought it was going to be easy or difficult, and it turns out to be the opposite,” he stated.
