Trump urges Congress to pass the budget on Friday to avoid government shutdown

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, urged this Thursday that Republicans approve in a vote scheduled for Friday in the House of Representatives a temporary funding bill that avoids the partial closure of the federal Government, which could occur on September 30 if there is no legislative agreement.

“Tomorrow, House Republicans will hold a very important vote to approve a temporary funding bill without changes”, Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social. All House Republicans must unite and vote in favor!” Trump added. Republican congressmen presented a provisional funding resolution to cover the federal government until November 21 with the goal of gaining time to negotiate an annual budget for the Administration and its leader, Mike Johnson, announced that the vote was expected for this Friday. It is not clear that the Republicans, who have a slim majority in the chamber, can get the bill passed tomorrow, while the Democrats demand to continue negotiating. In that regard, they urge that any budget extension include the renewal of subsidies for medical care that expires at the end of this year. Some Democrats are also demanding that the rule to be voted on in Congress reverse the changes made to the Medicaid program in the large and ambitious budget and tax cut law passed last July. If approved tomorrow, the rule will then go to the Senate, which must ratify it before September 30 to avoid closure.
