A rock formation collapsed Thursday at a popular tourist destination in Türkiye’s Cappadocia region, leaving two people dead and another injured, according to local media reports.

Large chunks of rock reportedly fell near the entrance to the Göreme Open-Air Museum, a well-known attraction in the region famous for its distinctive “fairy chimneys.”

Authorities reported two fatalities and one injury, while rescue teams continued working at the scene amid reports that people remained trapped beneath the rubble.

The collapse occurred in an area known for its towering, cone-shaped rock formations, some topped with larger stones. These natural structures are among Cappadocia’s most recognizable landmarks and can be found in several valleys, including Pasabag, Zelve, Love Valley and Devrent.

Rescue operations were ongoing as the situation developed.
