José Luis Romero Calzada, known as “El Tecmol,” is a businessman from San Luis Potosí who is once again seeking the mayor’s office in Ciudad Valles, this time hoping to be backed by the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM), despite having strongly criticized the party for years.
Romero Calzada’s political career has been marked by moves between different political parties, a confrontational populist discourse and a social media strategy centered on controversy and eccentric stunts. He has been accused of fuel theft and has drawn attention for a series of unusual appearances and online campaigns.
On social media, “El Tecmol” has been seen kissing a donkey, dressing as Santa Claus and diving into waterfalls. More recently, he went viral after arriving inside a coffin at Luis Donaldo Colosio Park in Ciudad Valles as part of an “aura battle” event, a trend popularized on social media.
His public image has been shaped in large part by these controversial and eccentric appearances, which have helped make him a recurring viral figure in Mexican politics.
