The race was won by his compatriot Lidio Andrés Félix, who crossed the finish line in 47.82 seconds, while the Frenchman Jacques Ehrmann finished in third position. Santos, Olympic silver medalist in London 2012, stayed off the tracks since 2023 after being sanctioned by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), an independent body of World Athletics, after admitting that he used a passport with an incorrect date of birth to compete in the 2012 World Junior Athletics Championships.
