SANTO DOMINGO, RD. — The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) lifted the suspension that weighed on the Dominican Fencing Federation, a decision that was officially communicated to the new president of the entity, Gilberto Soriano, through a correspondence dated March 23, 2026.

The communication is signed by the president of the COD, Garibaldy Bautista Lorenzo, and the general secretary Luis Chanlatte, who reported that the Executive Committee unanimously approved the lifting of the sanction that affected the fencing federation. The Dominican Fencing Federation had been suspended in 2023, and subsequently intervened and disaffiliated until February 2028. As part of that process, the COD appointed a commission in charge of the technical-administrative direction of the athletes, as well as the monitoring of their preparation with a view to the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. The institutional landscape began to normalize after the election assembly held on February 28th, in which Gilberto Soriano was elected president for the period 2026-2030, obtaining eight of the 13 possible votes. Soriano will be accompanied on the executive committee by Gregorio Alberto Rivas Villar, Juan Marcos Clase Sánchez, Aristóteles Neuman Marchena, José Omar Santos Ríos and Carlos Augusto Almonte Yndalecio, along with a group of vocalists who complete the new board.
