Marileidy Paulino opens defense of her world title this Sunday in Tokyo

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Olympic and world champion in the 400-meter dash, Marileidy Paulino, will return to the track of the Tokyo National Stadium, the stage where her stardom began, to begin the defense of her crown at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

Paulino will debut this Sunday, September 14th at 7:25 p.m. in Japan (6:25 a.m. Dominican Republic time) in the 400-meter elimination round. If he advances, the semi-final is scheduled for Tuesday 16th at 9:05 p.m. (8:05 a.m. local time), while the grand final will be run on Thursday 18th at 10:24 p.m. in Tokyo (9:24 a.m. in RD). The Peravian sprinter, who has a silver medal from Eugene 2022 and gold in Budapest 2023, will seek to become only the second woman in history, after the Australian Cathy Freeman, to conquer consecutive titles in the 400-meter dash. The Dominican delegation at the Tokyo World Championships kicks off this Friday with the participation of Alexander Ogando in the 100 meters, followed by Liranyi Alonso and Lidio Feliz in their respective events, while the country focuses its attention on Paulino, the main hope for a medal.
