Santo Domingo. Dominican sprinter Marileidy Paulino, triple winner of the Diamond League trophy, will face this week the challenge of conquering her fourth consecutive title in the 400-meter dash, during the finals of the prestigious athletic circuit that will be held on August 27 and 28 in Zurich, Switzerland.

Paulino, who has dominated the event in the last three seasons, arrives with a mark of 48.81 seconds in the current campaign. However, the Bahraini Salwa Naser, world champion in 2019 and owner of a record of 48.67 seconds, appears as her main threat to prevent the Dominican from extending her reign in the event. The Zurich meeting will bring together several of the great figures of international athletics, including the Swede Armand “Mondo” Duplantis, who set a new world record in pole vaulting this summer with 6.29 meters and who will seek his fifth “diamond”; the Dutch Femke Bol, undisputed queen of the 400-meter hurdles, also with three titles in her hands; and the American Noah Lyles, who will star in an expected duel in the 200 meters against the Botswanan Letsile Tebogo, thirteen months after their confrontation at the Paris Olympic Games. In Paulino’s case, his presence in the final not only represents the possibility of a new title, but also the consolidation of his status as one of the great references of world athletics, once again taking the Dominican flag to the top. The 2025 Diamond League will also serve as a prelude to the Tokyo World Athletics Championships, scheduled for two weeks from now, where several of these figures are expected to repeat their prominence.
