Craig Kimbrel will reinforce the Astros’ bullpen, according to sources

Houston. – Veteran reliever Craig Kimbrel, one of the most successful arms in Major League history, has reached an agreement to join the bullpen of the Houston Astros, according to a report by Mark Feinsand of MLB.com. The team has not yet made the signing official.

At 37 years old, Kimbrel will experience his second stint of the season in the Majors. The right-hander pitched a scoreless inning with the Atlanta Braves on June 6th, before being released by the club. He subsequently signed a minor league contract with the Texas Rangers, where he appeared in 24 games with the Triple-A Round Rock team. There he recorded an ERA of 3.86 with 28 strikeouts in 21 innings. Kimbrel is considered one of the most decorated relievers in MLB history. He was selected to nine All-Star Games, has won four Reliever of the Year awards and was awarded Rookie of the Year in 2011 with the Braves. In addition, he was part of the Boston Red Sox team that won the World Series in 2018. In his career, he has accumulated 449 saves, the fifth-highest figure in Major League history, along with an ERA of 2.59 and 1,266 strikeouts in 810.2 innings pitched. If the move is confirmed, the Astros would add a pitcher with extensive experience and a track record to strengthen a bullpen that seeks depth in the final stretch of the 2025 season.
