Santo Domingo, RD.– The Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom) officially announced the integration of the stellar shortstop Jeremy Peña to the team that will represent the Dominican Republic in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, thus confirming the return of one of the most complete players in his position for the maximum international event.

Peña, current shortstop for the Houston Astros, will once again wear the tricolor uniform after also participating in the 2023 edition, once again contributing his combination of offense, elite defense, and experience in high-pressure tournaments, key qualities in a short-format competition. During the most recent Major League Baseball season, the Dominican shortstop recorded an outstanding offensive line of .304/.363/.477, with an OPS of .840 (OPS+ 132), hit 17 home runs, drove in 62 runs, stole 20 bases and accumulated 5.6 WAR, solidifying himself as one of the best players at his position. In addition to Peña, the Federation confirmed the inclusion of pitchers Huáscar Brazobán, Edwin Uceta and Albert Abreu, who will reinforce the Dominican pitching staff with young, versatile arms with experience in organized baseball in the United States. The presence of Peña guarantees defensive solidity at shortstop and leadership on the field, determining factors for a Dominican team that aims again to conquer the World Classic crown.
