“Double-champions”: first the Classic and now the World Series for this Venezuelan trio

William Contreras, Jackson Chourio and Antonio Senzatela made history by becoming “double-champions” in 2026, after winning the World Baseball Classic with Venezuela and subsequently lifting the World Series trophy with the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Milwaukee team won 4-1 in the World Series against the Rays, achieving the franchise’s first championship in its 58-year history. With this victory, the three Venezuelans joined a select group of players who have won the World Baseball Classic and the World Series in the same year.

“It is a dream come true. To be a World Series champion and a Classic champion in the same year is something historic,” expressed Senzatela during the celebrations on the field. “Honestly, I didn’t expect it when the year started, but God always has good plans and thank God we were able to complete the feat.”

The possibility of achieving both titles had been discussed among the Milwaukee players since the start of the playoffs. Senzatela acknowledged that within the clubhouse there was the motivation to seek a second championship after winning the Classic with Venezuela.

“Since the playoffs started, the mindset is like: ‘We are going to be champions, because we already won the Clásico. We have to win two championships’,” the Venezuelan pitcher recounted.

Contreras, for his part, preferred to maintain focus game by game during the World Series. The catcher had pointed out that, before talking about the possibility of becoming a two-time champion, they first had to win the title with Milwaukee. Finally, he was also recognized as the World Series Most Valuable Player, thanks to his outstanding performance behind the plate.

Chourio had also considered the possibility of winning both championships in the same year special. “Every award matters. I think that’s why we all play. You always have to give your best and hope for the best as well,” the young outfielder had expressed.

The feat achieved by Contreras, Chourio, and Senzatela places them in an extremely exclusive group. Before them, only Alex Bregman and Luke Gregerson, champions with the United States in the World Baseball Classic and with the Houston Astros in the 2017 World Series, had achieved both titles in the same year.

For the three Venezuelans, 2026 will be marked as a historic season: first they celebrated with their national team and months later they lifted a championship trophy again, this time on the biggest stage of Major League Baseball.
