FEDOM, management of the Dominican team and MLB conclude children’s clinics program

SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOM), the management of the Dominican team that will compete in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, and Major League Baseball (MLB) held the fourth and final children’s baseball clinic this Thursday in Santo Domingo, aimed at children between 8 and 10 years old, as part of a comprehensive training and development plan.

The activity, held at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium, brought together nearly 300 children from the National District and Santo Domingo province, who participated in an educational and recreational day that combined technical teachings, motivation, and direct contact with figures from professional baseball. During the event, FEDOM president, Juan Núñez, highlighted the positive impact of the initiative on Dominican children and thanked the support of the players and collaborators involved. “We are very happy to share with you and to have these baseball figures who help us sow values and dreams in our children,” he said.

For his part, Cristian Reyes, MLB director in the Dominican Republic, highlighted the importance of collective commitment to the development of grassroots baseball. “We thank both the children and the players for dedicating their time and effort. They will be the ones who represent our country in the future,” he said.

The general manager of the Dominican team for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Nelson Cruz, encouraged the participants to enjoy the experience and set ambitious goals. “This space is for you. Hopefully, the next major leaguers will come out of here and, when they achieve it, they will return to support other children as is being done today,” he indicated. The presence of Emilio Bonifacio, captain of the Tigres del Licey, generated special enthusiasm among the children, who did not stop chanting his name. The veteran player urged them to value the opportunity and to take advantage of each lesson received during the clinic. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, valued the social impact of the initiative and the union of efforts between institutions. “This alliance between FEDOM, MLB and the Classic management sends a positive message to the country. Children represent the present and the future of the Dominican Republic,” he said. General Pascual Cruz Méndez, director of the General Directorate of Traffic and Ground Transportation Safety (DIGESETT), also attended the activity, supporting the development of this type of training program. Active players Camilo Doval, Mel Rojas Jr., Sergio Alcántara, and Emilio Bonifacio participated as instructors, along with former players Ramón Martínez and Anderson Hernández, who imparted fundamental baseball knowledge through rotating work stations. With this day, a national tour was completed that included previous clinics in Baní, San Pedro de Macorís and Santiago, managing to impact children from the 32 provinces of the country.
