World Baseball Classic Directive, FEDOBE and MLB will bring children’s baseball clinics to the entire country

SANTO DOMINGO.– The Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOBE), the board of directors of the National Team that will compete in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, and Major League Baseball (MLB) announced the implementation of a national baseball clinic program aimed at children, as part of a community impact and sports legacy initiative.

The sessions will be aimed at children between 8 and 10 years old and will feature the participation of Major League players, coaches, and members of the Dominican team’s technical staff, who will share experiences, knowledge, and fundamentals of the game, in a formative and motivational environment. The program includes four dates during the month of January and will benefit about 990 children from different regions of the country. The first clinic will be held on Friday, January 9 at the municipal stadium of Baní, for the Southern region. Subsequently, on January 16, it will be held at the Tetelo Vargas stadium in San Pedro de Macorís, covering the Eastern region. The activities will continue on January 24 in Santiago, aimed at children from Cibao, and will conclude on January 29 at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium, for participants from the National District and Santo Domingo province. The general manager of the Dominican Republic selection for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Nelson Cruz, highlighted the social value of these clinics and their connection to the passion generated by the tournament in the country. He noted that the initiative seeks to inspire children, bring them closer to their role models, and show them that with discipline and effort they can achieve their goals. From his side, the president of FEDOBE, Juan Núñez, highlighted that the project is part of an integral vision to strengthen Dominican baseball from its foundations, while strengthening ties between the national team and the communities. Meanwhile, Miguel Matos, director of the MLB office in the Dominican Republic, reaffirmed Major League Baseball’s support for early training programs, noting that these types of actions contribute to the sustained development of baseball in the country. These clinics are part of the agenda of activities prior to the 2026 World Baseball Classic, which also includes preparation games for the Dominican team against the Detroit Tigers on March 3 and 4, at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium, as well as integration meetings and other national outreach initiatives.
