HOUSTON. — Dominican Junior Caminero starred in a memorable night in the Tampa Bay Rays’ overwhelming 13-3 victory over the Houston Astros, this Thursday at Daikin Park. Caminero went 6-3 with a home run, double, two runs scored and six RBIs, solidifying himself as a key figure in the team’s recent rise.

The Rays took an early lead, but saw Houston tie the game after three runs between the fifth and sixth innings against Shane Baz. However, Tampa Bay responded immediately with a five-run rally in the seventh inning, led by Caminero, and added another five runs in the eighth to seal the victory.

The Rays’ offense showed its power with the first six batters of the seventh inning reaching base against left-handed reliever Bryan King. Josh Lowe stood out with a single, Brandon Lowe extending his hitting streak to 12 games, Yandy Díaz with a run-scoring line drive, and Jonathan Aranda with a run-producing double. Then came Caminero’s decisive hit: a three-run home run between right and center field, connected to a 91.9 mph fastball.

The young infielder, who now has 11 home runs on the season, is going through a great moment after an irregular start and has accumulated nine hits and six extra-base hits in his last seven games.

With this victory, the Rays have won eight of their last nine games and 10 of the last 14, placing their record at 29-27, their best mark since April 4th.
