The hit, which traveled 386 feet towards the opposite field according to Statcast, came against pitcher Brandon Woodruff’s pitches at American Family Field, becoming a special moment for both the player and the organization. With this achievement, Griffin joins an exclusive group of players who have hit a home run on their birthday before turning 21, a list that includes Aramis Ramírez (1998) and Buddy Lewis (1936). The shortstop, considered the number one prospect in baseball by MLB Pipeline, continues to show signs of his potential, after debuting on April 3rd with a run-scoring double. Despite an irregular start in the Majors —with a .182 average and eight RBIs in his first 20 games—, the young talent is beginning to show signs of the offensive power that characterizes him. In the previous season, Griffin hit 21 home runs in 122 minor league games, a performance that supports the high expectations the franchise has for his long-term development. The birthday home run not only represents a personal milestone, but also a preview of what the Pirates hope will be the first of many hits from their promising star.
